DataMosaic: Assisting Geologists from Uncertainty to Insight

This one-day workshop introduces geologists to DataMosaic, CSIRO’s interactive platform for geological interpretation of boundaries and unsupervised classification of geochemical data from drilling datasets. Participants will gain practical skills in identifying boundaries and working with complex datasets including legacy assays and petrophysical data.

Through a mix of presentations and live tutorials, the course will discuss three key challenges:

  1. Reducing uncertainty in early-stage exploration
  2. Reinterpreting legacy data and missing data
  3. Integrating new data into geology interpretations

You’ll learn how to:

  • Define robust geological boundaries using wavelet-based tessellation
  • Apply unsupervised machine learning for litho-geochemical classification
  • Improve confidence in geological interpretation leading to more accurate resource models

Presenters:

Ryan Manton, Qiushi Guan, and Lequn Zhang (CSIRO)

Maximum participants: 20

Software used: DataMosaic

Prerequisites: None. However, it is suited to exploration and resource geologists with some experience handling drill data
