Firestarter Masterclass

Curious about entrepreneurship? Whether you have a business idea or are just exploring, the Firestarter Masterclass Series will help you build valuable real-world skills you can apply in any job or business.

Designed by Curtin University’s Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship portfolio, this four-part online series introduces you to the foundations of business thinking, creative problem solving, and confident communication – no experience necessary.

Students who enrol and attend all four sessions in the Firestarter Masterclass will receive a certificate of participation upon conclusion of the program in September.

Curtin staff members are also welcome to enrol in the program.

Masterclass schedule

Each 90-minute masterclass focuses on a different core concept to support your personal and professional growth.

All sessions are held online from 8:00am to 9:30am UTC / 4:00pm to 5:30pm AWST.

Spark: From idea to business concept

Date: Wednesday 15 July 2026

Discover opportunities hiding in plain sight. This session focuses on intrapreneurship — finding and validating ideas within your existing industry or field of study, and shaping them into something truly market-ready.

Flicker: Mastering your business model

Date: Monday 3 August 2026

Already started your Lean Canvas? Let’s go deeper. This session builds on the fundamentals with advanced steps on what to do next with each segment and a toolkit of research resources to stress-test and strengthen your business model beyond the basics.

Flame: Find your first customers

Date: Wednesday 26 August 2026

Finding your next customer is an art and now AI can help. This session covers customer interviewing techniques and shows you how to leverage AI and technology to run faster, smarter market research.

Blaze: The art of pitching

Date: Monday 7 September 2026

Great pitching isn’t one-size-fits-all. This session teaches you how to adapt your pitch to different audiences, purposes, criteria, and build a master deck you can customise for any room you walk into.
